3 Ways To Remove Dairy From Your Keto Diet

If you’re just starting out on Keto and you also want to go dairy-free, then you’re probably feeling frustrated…

Most of the Keto recipes you encounter seem to be brimming with milk, cheese or butter.

While most dairy is high-fat and low-carb, there are a number of reasons why it makes sense to slash all dairy products from your diet, especially if you’re trying to lose weight on Keto.

Luckily, everything you’ll find on this page as well as on our website and in our cookbooks are Keto dairy-free recipes.

And if you want to convert some of your favorite dairy recipes into dairy-free, then follow the 3 tips below:

1.  Use Ghee Instead of Butter 

While butter is packed with fats and ostensibly Keto, we recommend using ghee instead.

To make ghee, you heat butter to high temperatures, which then causes the milk solids to be cooked and fall to the bottom of the mixture.  What's left after straining the milk solids out is a nutrient-rich liquid fat (AKA ghee or clarified butter) that contains practically no lactose or casein.

This ghee also has a high smoke point since it has little to no milk solids left in it that can burn.

Whether you choose to buy grass-fed, organic ghee or you prefer to rustle up your own in the slow cooker, ghee will give you a nutty taste to rival butter.

And if you’re sensitive to ghee as well, then you can use coconut oil instead of ghee in our Keto recipes.

2.  Use Coconut Milk Instead of Milk or Cream 

If you’re missing milk on Keto and you want something tailor-made for cooking up a storm or splashing in your coffee, why not use some coconut milk in its place? If you want something even more indulgent, opt for coconut cream instead.

If you buy your coconut milk, make sure it’s unsweetened and that there are no unwanted ingredients to play havoc with your macros.

You can also make your own coconut milk if you fancy taking full control.

3.  Use Cashew Cheese Instead of Cheese 

Do you fear ditching dairy because of your love of cheese?

If so, you’re in for a treat with cashew cheese.

Prepare by soaking some cashews overnight then follow this simple recipe for a creamy cheese-substitute perfect for smearing on Keto-friendly pizzas or using as a dip for your appetizers.
