Creamy Keto Crab Dip Recipe
There’s an upcoming party you’re hosting, and you need options for apps. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better crowd pleaser than this creamy keto crab dip recipe.
What’s in Crab Dip?
Creamy, delicious, and not fishy. You know you love it, but you might not be familiar with what’s normally in it.
Well, obviously, the headliner in crab dip is the crab. Onion is another typical feature.
But those don’t explain the ooze, the magical stringy gooey deliciousness. That comes from dairy.
There is a whole lot of dairy in your average crab dip. Sour cream, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
Lemon juice, salt, pepper, and garlic may be ingredients as well.
How I Made This Keto
There actually aren’t a whole lot of non-keto elements in the dip itself. My main issue with crab dip as it’s typically prepared is the dairy.
I prefer to make my recipes without dairy to accommodate a large number of people who have issues digesting it.
You may be curious, then, why this recipe calls for mayonnaise. Mayo is dairy free – it’s a common misconception that it contains dairy.
Another challenge with crab dip is what is used to scoop out the dip. Typically, that’s a very non-keto item.
Crusty bread and tortilla chips are common offenders. Both are grain-based carb factories you shouldn’t eat on keto.
Fortunately, there are some keto substitutes that work just as well.
I suggest keto tortilla chips, keto bread, or keto crackers.
I recommend keeping it simple and opting for canned crab for this quick appetizer. You can spend time making more complex dishes for your guests.
You can also buy crab meat in the refrigerated section. While it costs more, it is typically meatier and closer to fresh crab.
If you live near the coast, fresh crab is a great option too.
