This recipe has its roots in Mexican cuisine and has a great heat from the chilis. If you like it hotter, simply use a stronger chile pepper! Ingredients: avocado oil, leeks, garlic, seafood or chicken broth, dried thyme leaves, salmon, coconut milk, salt, pepper.

This dish is great if you like cream soups but want to stay dairy-free. The creaminess comes from the coconut milk and makes a lovely base for the salmon. The leeks give a subtle sweetness and are not a strong vegetable, which is a good idea as some salmon has a really delicate flavor. Leeks are also perfect for freezing – just slice or chop and pop them in a bag, then you will have them ready-prepared for soups and stews.

This soup takes only half an hour to cook, but with the use of traditional ingredients, it is full of Asian flavors and aromas. It is a lovely starter for a dinner party or celebration as it looks quite indulgent with the shrimp. In Thai restaurants this soup can actually contain white sugar and MSG, so here is the answer to getting the same flavors but without all the harmful ingredients.

Carrot Ginger Halibut Soup

– Phoenix Helix

Ingredients: coconut oil, onion, carrots, fresh ginger, chicken broth, water, halibut, black pepper, sea salt.

As this soup has a blended base, it is so warming, satisfying and filling, and is also a great way of getting kids to eat vegetables! It is also easy to digest, so it can help people with digestive difficulties.

Salmon Head Soup

– Rubies and Radishes

Ingredients: salmon head, small onion, green garlic, wakame, ginger, mirin or coconut vinegar, tamari or coconut aminos, zucchinis, chives, chilies.

It might be a bit surprising, but fish heads and tails still have meat on them once they are removed from the fish. You can buy them from fishmongers at a much cheaper price than filets. This recipe has a subtle heat from the ginger, and is filling thanks to the zucchini noodles. Ginger can be stored easily in the freezer which means you can buy larger amounts if you find a bargain, then use it up in soups and stews.

Chilled soups are so easy to make but are a winner when used as an appetizer for a dinner party. This chilled dish gives you the feel of summer – packed with freshness from the lime and mint! When blending this dish, try to add the lime juice quickly after the avocado as this will stop the avocado from oxidizing and turning brown. Keto Soup Recipes

Photo Credit: Sonia from The Healthy Foodie

Ingredients: extra-virgin olive oil, onion, celery rib, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, ground white, pepper, celery seeds, broccoli florets, cauliflower florets, chicken broth, milk of choice.

This soup gets its creamy texture from the addition of the cauliflower, although this does not affect the taste of the broccoli. You can use a stick blender for this dish, but you will get a creamier texture if you use a traditional blender. Keep a couple of broccoli florets aside and chop finely to add as a garnish to the finished dish.

– The Paleo Mom

Keto Soup Recipes

Photo Credit: Sarah from The Paleo Mom

The creamy texture in this soup is achieved by adding avocado which has a naturally smooth texture. It really doesn’t matter what kind of bone broth you use; it is a matter of taste or whatever you have to hand! The broccoli is full of antioxidants, making this dish a perfect healthy alternative. It’s also a great way to disguise veggies for fussy kids and picky eaters.

Grain Free Cream of Mushroom Soup

– Healthful Pursuit

Ingredients: cauliflower florets, unsweetened original almond milk, onion powder, Himalayan rock salt, ground pepper, extra-virgin olive oil, white mushrooms, yellow onion.

Not only is this recipe super healthy, it tastes great too! Using cauliflower puree gives it a great creamy texture but doesn’t affect the mushroom taste. This recipe calls for white mushrooms but you could use your favorites, or try a combination of different types like shiitake or chestnut.

Easy Creamy Zucchini Soup

– Primally Inspired

Ingredients: zucchini, onion, garlic cloves, ghee or olive oil, salt, chicken stock, fresh basil leaves.

This soup is quick and easy to prepare and is easy to fall back on if you are in a rush. Photo Credit: Katja from Savory Lotus

Ingredients: cauliflower florets, chard, baby spinach, small onion, garlic, curry powder, homemade broth (chicken, beef, or veggie), water, coconut milk (homemade or canned), salt, pepper, ghee or coconut oil.

The curry powder used in this soup gives a lovely warming heat to the dish, which is ideal for colder days. If you buy your veggies at a farmer’s market, try looking out for Romanesco cauliflower as it is green and has a different flavor to the white one, but makes a great alternative in this recipe. When you are sautéing the garlic just be careful because it can burn quite easily.

This is a simple recipe and is a healthier alternative to the traditional leek and potato soup. Cauliflower is more versatile than you may think and is used to give this soup a creamy texture without the extra carbs. The cauliflower also does not have a strong flavor, which makes it a great base for the sweetness of the leeks. – I Breathe I’m Hungry

Keto Soup Recipes

Photo Credit: Mellissa from I Breathe I’m Hungry

Ingredients: cauliflower florets, ham stock or chicken broth, water, garlic powder, onion powder, chopped ham, apple cider vinegar, fresh thyme leaves, butter (or ghee, bacon fat, or coconut oil), kosher salt, ground black pepper.

One of the best ways to get a beautiful broth as a base for soups and stews is to boil up a ham bone. If you boil the bone for a long time, the resulting broth gels when cooled and is packed with flavor. This soup is a definite “go to” for cold days when you crave something homemade, and it freezes well so is suitable for batch-cooking.

What kind of soup has no carbs?

A lot of broths have zero carbs and are very Keto-friendly. So give chicken broth and bone broth a try if you’re trying to keep your carb intake really low.

A small amount of meats (chicken, turkey, beef, ham, bacon) in the broth will add extra fats and protein to your soup. That’ll keep you full without adding hardly any additional carbs.

Vegetables are another great addition to Keto soups. However, Keto vegetables (even leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale) will add some carbs to your soup. However, the extra fiber, vitamins, minerals as well as flavor that vegetables add to your soup can be well worth the extra few carbs.

Is chicken broth Keto friendly?

Yes, most chicken broths are Keto-friendly as they contain hardly any carbs. They are also very low in fat and usually contain a small amount of protein (mostly from the collagen in the soup).

If you’re buying chicken broth at the store, make sure to read the ingredient label and check there’s no added preservatives, coloring, or sugars.

Is tomato soup heavy on carbs?

Tomato soup can definitely be a bit heavy on carbs. One cup of tomatoes contain 6 grams of carbs (with 2 grams of fiber). Tomato soup also typically contain onions, other vegetables, as well as herbs and spices. All of those add additional carbs to your soup so that one bowl can be 6-8 grams of net carbs.

So, if you’re looking to have tomato soup, choose a recipe that doesn’t use as much tomatoes.

Is beef broth Keto?

Yes, beef broth is Keto. If you’re buying beef broth ready made, then double check the ingredients to make sure it doesn’t contain added sugar or preservatives.

You can also easily make your own beef broth (or even better, your own beef bone broth using beef bones).
