Why I’m Including Fish In My Keto Diet (And You Should, Too)

You have no idea how many times I’ve heard someone say; “But I really don’t like fish.” Obviously, they’ve never tasted any of these mouthwatering meals.

There are many reasons why I wanted to add more fish in my Keto diet, and I thought I’d share them with you. You’ll wish you had known about these sooner!

1.  Fish Truly Makes You Healthier 

Fish, almost any kind, will give you various health benefits. (1) When you eat fish you’re getting:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids - These are great for your brain and heart. Omega-3 acids lower blood pressure and fish, such as salmon, herring and sardines include plenty of them. Our bodies can’t produce Omega-3, so we need to make sure we get those from the food we’re eating.
  • Vitamins (such as B2 and D) - B2 is also called Riboflavin and it helps you maintain healthy blood cells. Vitamin D will help you maintain healthy teeth and bones, just to name a few of it’s benefits.
  • Minerals (for example magnesium, iron and zinc)
  • Fish is also a great source of protein

2.  Fish Is Crazy Easy and Fast To Cook 

So many people seem to avoid fish just because they think it’s difficult to prepare. Of course, that’s not true.

Fish is super easy and fast to cook.  And you can buy canned fish or smoked fish that won’t even require you to cook anything!

When it comes to cooking fish, most of us think it’s just baking stuff in the oven or pan-frying cod like fancy restaurants do.  But there are tons of other ways to cook fish...

3.  Fish Recipes Are Amazingly Versatile 

Couldn’t find trout? Use salmon instead. If the recipe calls for canned fish, you can most likely use fresh fish, as well. Or buy a whole salmon, cut it into 2 fillets, bake one of them in the oven and make a spicy Thai soup of the other one!

Most fish recipes are pretty Keto or Paleo diet friendly.  The main thing to watch out for is of course breaded fish.
