So, if you are craving a moist and tender treat, packed full of chocolaty goodness, that won’t take forever to bake, read on because this is the recipe for you.

Watch this quick video to see how easy this chocolate mug cake really is:

What Is A Mug Cake?

Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like, a cake that is cooked in a mug. The mug cake is a variation on a cupcake but, unlike most cakes, mug cakes are usually cooked in the microwave instead of the oven. They are well-loved for being quick, easy and tasty.

The earliest cupcake recipe we know of was invented by an American woman named Amelia Simmons in the late 18th century. Amelia’s recipe called for little cakes to be cooked in cups. However, these little cakes didn’t get their name until the early 19th century. Before that, “cup cake” referred to a cake that used cups to measure ingredients much like pound cake.

Of course, it wasn’t until much later in the late 2000s that mug cakes roared on to the scene. Now, recipes for these microwavable treats are all over the internet. There are as many different types of mug cakes as there are oven-baked cakes.
