Tacos on Keto? Yes, it’s possible. This Keto fish tacos with lime mayo recipe bring it to life in a major way.

How to Make Keto Tacos

As you no doubt know, it’s not usually the insides of the taco that pose a problem, it’s the outside.

Whether corn or flour, tortillas pose a problem for your ketosis. But sometimes you really, really want a taco. And not a taco bowl or some other vaguely satisfying cop out.

No, what you need is a way to make a proper shell without all the carbs. I’m happy to share with you how to get it done.

Instead of white flour, you’re going to use a mix of coconut flour, psyllium husk powder, and baking soda.

With some egg, water, salt, and oil, this cooks into a delicious carrier for your much-awaited fish.

Speaking of fish, there’s a way to give your fish a delightful coating without all the carbs too.

Just like your soft tortillas, you’ll use coconut flour to coat your fish. Once they take a quick fry in olive oil, they’ll be fit to headline this dish.

Making it More Authentic

Just having the taco shell and the fish might be a bit boring, so you need something to liven it up.

For this recipe, that job goes to the lime mayo. To make this, purchase regular mayonnaise, being careful to avoid brands with sugar.

Paleo brands often fit the bill, but some “regular” brands probably work too.

You’ll take your store-bought stuff and mix in the zest of a lime. This gives your mayo an unexpected zippy kick that screams fish tacos.

Keto Diet Food List

As you can see from this Keto fish tacos recipe, you have to watch out for everyday foods like tortillas and mayo that might not suit your ketogenic diet.

Save yourself from this dire scenario by stocking up on foods from this free Keto diet food list. You’ll find a wide range of tasty snacks to keep hunger at bay and your goals within reach.

Find vegetables, fish, fats, meats, drinks, nuts, fruits, and more! Many of these items can be stashed in your bag, car, or desk for easy access.

Description

Delicious fish tacos with the fresh, zingy flavor of lime mayo.

Ingredients

For the soft tacos

For the fish

  • 14 oz (400 g) of white fish fillets, skin removed and deboned
  • 2 Tablespoons (14 g) of coconut flour
  • Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) of olive oil, divided

To assemble

  • 1 lime, zest and juice
  • 4 Tablespoons (60 ml) of Keto Mayonnaise
  • 4 reserved soft tacos
  • Soft lettuce leaves
  • Reserved cooked fish
  • 1/4 medium red onion (28 g), thinly sliced
  • Small handful of chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. To make the soft taco shells, combine the coconut flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder, and salt, to taste,  in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk to combine the egg, lukewarm water and 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) of olive oil. Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture and use a wooden spoon to combine well.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal-sized portions. Roll each one into a ball and flatten between two sheets of baking parchment paper – to the approximate size of a small plate. If desired, trim the outer edges to neaten it up and remove the top layer of parchment.
  3. Heat 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of olive oil in a nonstick frying pan and gently place the dough into the pan. Cook for several minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time. Set aside and repeat the process until you have 4 soft taco shells.
  4. To make the fish, cut the fish into smaller pieces and scatter over the coconut flour on all sides. Season with salt. Heat 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) of olive oil in a clean pan and fry the fish pieces (preferably in batches to avoid crowding the pan) until golden and cooked through. Drain on a plate lined with a paper towel.
  5. Make a mayonnaise by finely grating the zest of one lime into the Keto Mayonnaise. Combine well and spread 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) of the Keto Mayonnaise over each taco shell.
  6. To assemble the tacos, hold each taco shell in your hand and fill with the soft lettuce leaves and fried fish. Top the tacos with the sliced red onions and chopped fresh cilantro. Squeeze over a little lime juice, if desired.
