A Low-Carb Bread Primer

Just like non-Keto friendly bread, low-carb breads have the same basic components, flour, liquid, structure, leavening, fat, and flavoring. But since Keto breads can’t use standard flour or butter, the typical ingredient list looks a little different.

  • Liquid – Many bread recipes use water or flour; this recipe uses a combination of egg and ghee or oil. These ingredients play other parts in the recipe too.
  • Structure – A typical bread recipe uses gluten for structure. Since low-carb breads are gluten-free, this recipe uses egg.
  • Leavening – Most standard bread recipes use yeast, this recipe uses baking powder, which is commonly used in muffins and other quick breads.
  • Fat – This is optional (but tasty). Our recipe uses ghee or oil and gets some additional fat from the egg yolk.
