Not every mug cake has to be chocolate or vanilla. This keto coffee MCT mug cake is nut-free, dairy-free, and full of benefits to your diet.

What is MCT Oil?

MCT oil can be your best friend when it comes to a keto diet. If you want to get a bit more technical, it’s a fatty acid molecule with a number of benefits for keto.

Here are a few key benefits:

  • Increases ketones
  • Increases energy
  • Easy to burn off and difficult to store as fat
  • Lowers blood sugar
  • Improves nutrient absorption
  • Helps control hunger
  • Aids in weight loss
  • May reduce heart disease risk

Which Type of MCT Oil is Best?

If you’ve heard of MCT, you are probably aware that there is more than one kind of MCT oil out there. Does it matter which one you use?

It actually does. Some can be less friendly to your stomach, some are less than delicious, and some don’t provide as much energy as others.

I recommend C8, or Caprylic acid. It offers the highest ketone production of the bunch. Many MCT oils are actually a blend of a few different types, so try to find one that is only made from C8.

While MCT is found in foods such as coconut oil, ghee, and palm kernel oil, you’d have to eat a lot of it to get an equivalent amount to an MCT supplement.

And I don’t know about you, but I’m not a huge fan of eating spoonfuls of coconut oil.

You can purchase MCT oil online or in health food stores. Check your labels carefully and do your best to avoid hydrogenated oils.

More Uses for MCT Oil

This ketogenic mug cake is just one example of how to use MCT oil in your cooking and baking.

It does pair wonderfully with coffee, so that’s definitely my first suggestion for adding it into your diet. MCT oil makes it creamier and adds a bit of froth.

Just be sure to add MCT oil to your diet slowly to let your body adjust. If you consume too much too fast you might face stomach upset.
